Gang robbery at Bolton Interchange leaves teenager in fear
The incident happened at around 8.30pm on Monday night, where the boy was brutally attacked and had his coat stolen by a group of around 10 young people, who then fled in the direction of Morrisons.
The teenager was returning home from Manchester city centre, where he commutes daily on the train to an apprenticeship.
On Monday night he was beckoned off the train by the gang and, when he did not comply, he was dragged off the carriage. They then proceeded to assault him before they ran off with his jacket.
Police are investigating the incident and have appealed to the public for any information.
Luckily, the boy managed to retain his mobile phone, on which he called 999 and reported what happened.
Since then, however, the boy's mother, claims that nothing further has been done and contacting someone who is connected to the investigation has been impossible and she is usually met with answer phones and unhelpful online chats.
"I'm shocked. It's an absolute joke," she said.
"The whole system is a farce. I don't know what I'm paying taxes for to be honest."
She added: "I'm quite annoyed because it might stop him going to work. He travels into the city for an apprenticeship. Not many kids do that."
Not only has the incident caused her son an injury, a lump on his head and complaints of dizziness, but the boy's confidence has been understandably shaken.
On top of that, she says there are further ramifications for the wider family.
His mother added: "He's frightened. His grandma is having to take him and pick him up from the station and she's got breast cancer and it's causing her stress."
This is the latest in a string violent and anti-social occurrences at the interchange, which has led to an increased police presence in the area following a shared 'Travel Safe' initiative between GMP and Travel officers.
A spokesperson for GMP has issued a statement, saying: "Enquiries are on-going and anyone with information is asked to report it online or via LiveChat at www.gmp.police.uk.
Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
